I‘m Ramona Ring, a freelance illustrator based in Hamburg, Germany. After graduating from the University of Applied Sciences in Nuremberg with a degree in graphic design and illustration I got a major commission from german ZEITmagazin and gained a foot in the door to a career in editorial illustration. Now I work for a various range of clients worldwide, mainly in the fields of editorial and book illustration, advertising and graphic novel. This past summer I took a break to take part in an artist residency program in Sitka, Alaska to start working on a graphic novel about childhood experiences.
Concerning my way of working I’m in love with the combination of handmade drawings and the possibilities of digital editing. Illustrations should ideally open up new dimensions generating a new understanding of the subject matter. Access to writing through pictures is a quite different experience to reading alone. In my opinion a successful illustration captures or captivates the reader. To do this, not only does the subject of the illustration have to be right, so do its colour tones and composition.
Clients I've worked for include: Annabelle - Audible - Berliner Philharmonie - Business Punk - Deutsche Bahn - fab.coffee roastery - Fast Company - Flair - FOCUS - Hohe Luft - Philosophie Magazin - Rolling Stone - Scientific American - Stern Gesund Leben - Stern Viva! - Therapy Today - Penguin Books India - ZEITmagazin
My work has been awarded by and featured in: 3x3 Magazine - Creative Quarterly - ‚DANCE (RED), SAVE LIVES‘ by (RED) and Adobe - Freistil - Hi-Fructose - iGNANT - Illustration Age - Juxtapoz - LeadAwards - novum - Nothing to Nobody - Sitka Fellows Program
